Hey Mommy’s First Blogger Recognition Award
This post may contain affiliate links. Please see the full disclosure for more details.
What an honour it is to be nominated for having a great blog by one of your online peers and fellow bloggers. So first and foremost, I would like to thank Terry and Teresa Hughes at Crush‘N Life Together for bestowing the nomination on Hey Mommy!
How Hey Mommy Began
Hey Mommy! That’s what I hear, followed by a question or request (or demand!) of some kind, approximately one hundred times a day (sometimes more!). These Hey Mommy! remarks are often hilarious or inquisitive and serve as the inspiration for my stories and recipes.
When I thought about starting a blog…and wondered what I should call it…the inspiration was clear and obvious – call it: Hey Mommy!
I suppose it all started as I began my own journey towards a more wellness based, healthy lifestyle. For me, it’s all about making small changes and adjustments wherever I can, whether it’s in a recipe or the way I clean my house.
I started experimenting with various recipes, especially with baked goods, as I searched for healthier alternatives to your typical treats. I wanted to Think outside the food box!
One of my first “experiments” was Black Bean Brownies. Right away I thought they were amazing! I brought them to every party I could, to share these “secret ingredient” brownies. To me, one of the best things in life is sharing delicious and thoughtfully prepared food with friends and family. And one of the funnest is sharing unexpected and unexpectedly healthy food with unsuspecting friends, who would have otherwise been skeptical.
I have everyone try the brownies first and after the “Mmmm’s” have stopped, I then let them know what they’re made. Much to everyone’s shock and amazement, they tried and liked Black Bean Brownies. And that’s the win for me!
I’m still left to contend with some unrelenting relatives, who shall remain nameless, who look at me questioningly before trying anything I make now and mutter “What’s in it?”
As more and more people asked me for recipes and told me that I should share them, I thought it would be wonderful to share healthier alternative ideas with other people, and so…Hey Mommy began!
And then the learning began… What’s a domain? You mean I have to pay for hosting? What’s hosting? WTF is WordPress? How do I……….??? (Insert gif of the monkey throwing the computer…you know the one!)
Well I’m fairly tech savvy and I’ve navigated the online blogosphere pretty well… And I’ve learned from some other presumably tech savvy online entrepreneurs and Mommy bloggers throughout my journey. More on them in “just a sec”. First, my thoughts for new(ish) bloggers.
Advice for other Bloggers:
Just do it! If you’re thinking about starting a blog, just go ahead and do it. Launch yourself into the online world. Share your passion. Your creativity. Your ideas. Your thoughts. Share you!
Learn from others. Believe in yourself. Because You. Are. Awesome.
And once you start, don’t stop. You need momentum. I started Hey Mommy a couple of years ago…threw up a few posts…and then just let it sit there.
LIfe has a way of getting in the way sometimes, but if something is important to you, you make time for it. That’s why I’m trying to make time for Hey Mommy now.
Now for everyone out there, changing the world, one blog at a time…

It was truly exhausting (in a good stay-up-late-reading-blogs-all-night-kind-of-way) choosing nominees, with so many amazing bloggers and entrepreneurs out there, whom I admire and learn from daily.
